This job was all about precision colour replacement. The Mini was shot in blue. The job was to create a sequence of shots with the Mini in red, white & blue. The wider plan was to create a cool brand twist which nods to the car’s very British heritage.

The change from blue to red was achieved with a simple spin of the hue wheel (and a lot of matte work.) But, the cranking up of the brightness from blue to white flattened all the reflections, making it look wrong. This meant further work to separate the reflections and bring back as much detail as possible. One thing I was able to take advantage of was that the closer you get to black, the smaller the colour change becomes. I saved a lot of time by focusing my labour on the brighter parts of the picture & got a totally clean believable look.
