I spoke to other Flame ops around the world on the Logik.tv podcast. The host was Andy Milkis, Director of VFX @ LVLY in New York.

I chose to tackle the tricky subject of real-world learning by recording some of my thinking as I tackle my work. I hope it will ring true for anyone who has too much to learn.

There’s no question that we all approach learning in our own way. Whatever works, right?🤷‍♂️ Here are 5 things that work for me;

Relegate your to-do list

It’s not productive. It’s a distraction. Let a little chaos into your life as you focus on the boring, the difficult & the important.

Forget goals and dates

Everyone knows that goals are important, right? I dropped them. Detailed goals are an if/then equation that undermines momentum. Instead, set a direction, & do it every day.

If you are stuck, stop

Mounting evidence suggests that our brains carry on working on a problem when we stop. The answer will almost always be more obvious when you come back. Take a break.

Who can Handle the boredom of the most REPS

Most learning is not inspired or creative. It’s about how many reps you put up with. You have to return, day in, day out, to the same difficult problems. That's what creates the breakthroughs. Nothing good comes for free.

Focus on the non-urgent stuff

You know all that stuff that you want to do? The stuff that never makes it to the top of your list & no one is shouting for….that’s the stuff that will change your life.
